This is a blog about my journey through accomplishing something that, right now, seems to be a large feat...completing a full marathon and crossing the finish line. I turned 30 this year and part of my bucket list includes running a full marathon in 2010. I plan to write about all my experiences this year as I prepare for the big run in Washington, D.C. - Marine Corps Marathon - on October 31st. Thank you in advance for your comments, suggestions, and most of all, your encouragement.
The distance race is a struggle that results in self discovery. It is an adventure involving the limits of the self.

A quote to end the day...
"People can't understand why a man runs. They don't see any sport in it. Argue it lacks the sight and thrill of body contact. Yet, the conflict is there, more raw and challenging than any man versus man competition. For in running it is man against himself, the cruelest of opponents. The other runners are not the real enemies. His adversary lies within him, in his ability, with brain and heart to master himself and his emotions." Glenn Cunningham, American Runner, Olympic Games Medalist
I'm interested in reading more about the psychology of strength and welcome any reading suggestions.

I agree completely. Surpassing another person doesn't really mean a lot. They might be faster or in better shape than you and you can push yourself to your limit and still lose...or they might be slower and in worse shape than you and beating them doesn't mean anything....but to beat yourself you have to reach down deep inside and push yourself farther than you thought possible. That is the true victory. When for a brief moment you are able to transcend who you thought you were...that supreme effort that has nothing to do with your muscles and everything to do with what's inside you...your will...your discipline...your guts...your spirit...because true strength comes from inside...
